Five Additional Scholarships Awarded

After learning about the lives of over 170 Central Indiana high school seniors, Williams Comfort Air and Metzler’s Mr. Plumber are pleased to announce the recipients of our 2010 ExtraordinAIRy Treasures scholarships. Our three person committee read about the lives of each of these young people with the goal of choosing six scholarship recipients, and we just couldn’t get it done. So, through some employee donations and additional support from our company owners, we created five additional scholarships.

The 2010 ExtraordinAIRy Treasures Scholarship recipients are:

$1,000 Scholarships

Brian Sahm (Roncalli); Grant Russel (Lutheran); Sara Beth Warren (Lebanon); Scott Brown (Mooresville)

$500 Scholarships

Alex Minnig (Carmel); Sierra Nicole Holland (Lawrence Central)

$400 Scholarships

Chandler James (Plainfield); Hannah Flores (Carmel); Jacob Strohmeyer (Stonegate Early College/ J. Everett Light Career Center); Jessica Hoffman (New Palestine); Kasey Crouse (Anderson Highland)

We will hold an awards ceremony for these eleven graduates, their parents/guardians, and nominators in the near future. Stay tuned to our blog as we will be posting individual bios on each recipient. As you know, we believe that the ExtraordinAIRy Treasures scholarship is a great opportunity for people like you to recognize young people for their unique and valuable skills that will benefit us all in the future. We are happy to say the newly launched Indy Style show, shown weekdays on WISH at 9 AM, agrees and will air a segment on these seniors in June highlighting their great character, service, perseverance, and leadership.

The committee was honored to learn about each and every one of the 170+ seniors that you nominated! As we read these essays, our feelings rode a roller coaster: pride and awe in the selfless service given by so many; inspiration from and tears for the difficult life circumstances some of these young people have persevered; joy for those who pulled themselves up by the bootstraps and made a U-turn during high school to be successful. Each of these young people are ExtraordinAIRy Treasures.

Thanks to all who nominated a senior, “friended” us on Facebook, followed us on Twitter, took part in our online vote, spread the word about these scholarships, and most importantly are encouraging and supporting these young people today. We look forward to continuing the ExtraordinAIRy Treasures scholarships for the Class of 2011.

Please keep following us as we honor Hometown Heroes and Teachers in the coming months. We will once again look to you to nominate your ExtraordinAIRy Treasures and spread the word.

Online voting delayed due to extraordinAIRy response!

Thursday, April 22nd, 2010

Wow!! There have been 183 high school seniors nominated and ALL of them are truly ExtraordinAIRy Treasures! This is the second year for our ExtraordinAIRy Treasures scholarships and there has been a 900% increase in nominations thanks to YOU sharing about your treasures… Thank you!

Our scholarship committee has been diligently giving consideration to all nominations. This is very difficult but also very inspiring. ExtraordinAIRy certainly describes each and every one of these young men and women.

Not having anticipated the wonderful response, we did not allow adequate time in the schedule to choose the six scholarship recipients of which three will be voted upon by you to determine the amount of their scholarship. We do not want to rush this process.

Our goal is to begin Online Voting by Friday, April 30th. Please check our blog regularly next week for voting updates.

Scholarships can change a future… and many of YOU have also!
