Matching $500 awards to their non-profits of choice

After recently awarding 11 scholarships, Williams Comfort Air is now accepting nominations for Hometown Heroes as part of its ExtraordinAIRy Treasures program. We will honor TWO local heroes. Each hero will receive a $500 cash award, a $500 donation to their favorite non-profit organization, and a fabulous dinner for two at Keltie’s in Westfield. These heroes will have impacted the lives of others in an ExtraordinAIRy way. Residents of Boone, Hamilton, Hancock, Hendricks, Johnson, Madison, Marion, Morgan, and Shelby counties can be nominated.

This can be your way to say “thanks” to your ExtraordinAIRy Treasure. “Hero” can mean so many things. Maybe your hero is a friend who shines while battling cancer, an employer who goes above and beyond, a neighbor who is only a phone call away no matter what you need, a soldier who protects us all, a nurse who helped you thru a tough time…

“A hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles.” – Christopher Reeve

“A boy doesn’t have to go to war to be a hero; he can say he doesn’t like pie when he sees there isn’t enough to go around” – E.W. Howe

“A hero is someone who has given his or her life to something bigger than oneself.” – Joseph Campbell

“A hero is a man who does what he can.” – Romain Rolland

“The ordinary man is involved in action, the hero acts. An immense difference.” – Henry Miller

Monday, January 26th, 2009

Carmel, IN — Williams Comfort Air, heating and cooling specialists located in Carmel, Indiana, is now accepting nominations for its ExtraordinAIRy Treasures annual scholarship program. Six one-time scholarships totaling $5,000 will be awarded to high school seniors who are seen as ExtraordinAIRy Treasures to our future. These students will have demonstrated ExtraordinAIRy life skills including community service, leadership activities, and family commitment. Students from Boone, Hamilton, Hancock, Hendricks, Johnson, Madison, Marion, Morgan, and Shelby counties who will enroll in a university, community college, or vocational/trade school upon graduation can be nominated. There are no requirements for GPA or career choice.

Four $1,000 scholarships and two $500 scholarships will be awarded based on a 400-word essay, submitted by anyone, such as a parent, teacher, counselor, neighbor, or employer. Essays should convey why this high school senior is an ExtraordinAIRy Treasure to our future by including an overview of the nominee’s life skills in action such as integrity, kindness, and commitment to community to name a few. In addition, each nomination must include two additional references from adults who interact with the student in either academic or extracurricular activities. Williams Comfort Air will accept nominations from February 1, 2010 through April 13, 2010.

A Williams Comfort Air committee will determine the six scholarship recipients. Three $1000 scholarships will be awarded to the top three students. The remaining $1000 and $500 scholarships will be awarded based on an on-line vote from April 21, 2010 to May 12, 2010. ExtraordinAIRy Treasures Scholarship recipients will be announced the week of May 17, 2010.
